  1. Plan and Prepare
    • Planning an outdoor adventure is half the fun! When going on a hike, there are ten essential things you should put into your adventure pack. Before embarking on your hike, discuss what you need to pack.
  1. Gather Your Gear
    • Previously, you talked about what you need to pack when going on a hike, now it is time to pack. Make sure you have the 10 hiking essentials – pack anything else that you see fit for your specific hike.
    • The 10 Hiking Essentials:
      • Water bottle
      • Warm clothing that you can take on and off if the temperature changes (sweatshirt, jacket, long-sleeved t-shirt)
      • Tools (like a walking stick or whistle)
      • Flashlight
      • Trail map
      • Compass
      • Towel or blanket
      • Firestarter or matches
      • Snacks
      • Sun and bug protection
  1. Train Your Adventure
    • Before you go on your hike with your hiking companions, answer these questions to make a schedule and a plan:
      • Where will you be hiking?
      • What time of day is best for hiking in your area?
      • Do you have a trail map? What trail will you be following?
      • Will your hike cost anything?
      • What games will you play as you hike? What songs will you sing?
      • What’s your hiking style? Will you take breaks? Do you need to be somewhere by a particular time? How fast will you hike?
  1. Go on Your Adventure
    • The final step is to go on your hike! Make sure to enjoy the Look and Learn QR codes along the trail, and be sure to tag Anniston Museums and Gardens in any pictures that you post to social media using the hashtag #ExploreAMAG. Happy Adventuring!
